A Collaborative Approach in the Built Environment

Collaboration in the construction industry has been a hot topic, as the sector can often be disjointed due to the various stages in the building lifecycle. The construction industry brings together a large number of diverse disciplines, making collaboration even more valuable. Sapphire Balconies are making a concerted effort to promote a collaborative approach in the built environment through a series of events and roundtables to discuss and overcome industry challenges.

At a recent event, we asked our attendees why they felt collaboration was essential in the construction sector.

Benefits of A Collaborative Approach in the Built Environment

1. Learning about new ideas and issues

A collaborative approach allows various stakeholders to meet and enables a more seamless transfer of knowledge, allowing everyone to capitalise on one another’s experience.

Paul Capwell at Q-railing added – “Collaborative events help join concerns and raise awareness on the impact of the changes in the industry and what we in the industry need to do to revert to common sense.”

“Sharing information increases everyone’s knowledge exponentially” – Kieran Moe, Professional Housebuilder & Property Developer

2. Meeting Fellow Professionals

Collaborative events also present opportunities to engage with various disciplines and promote multi-disciplinary collaboration.

Waheed Khan of Dandara added – “Collaborative events present meeting opportunities with fellow professionals as well as realising issues of related professionals.”

3. Detailed Information and Understanding

Collaborative events further allow room for two way communication among various disciplines as attendees have opportunities to ask questions and add further information from their fields.

“Collaborative events provide detailed information on standards/issues and questions from the audience can be very enlightening.” – Kieran Moe, Professional Housebuilder & Property Developer

Paul Barstow from Barbour continued – “They can enhance the sector understanding from leaders in the field along with exchanging ideas to help enhance the industries understanding.”

Peter Burchell from EOS added – “More collaboration is needed to influence the industry and address challenges.”

Finally to make collaborative events a success Michael Bagor of Rowlinson recommended – “Bringing guidance together into one streamlined document is necessary to avoid ambiguity”
