History:

Mayfields Care Home, located by the riverside in Watford, is a development that stands out for its commitment to creating a comfortable and visually appealing environment for its residents. The project’s proximity to Watford General Hospital, just a few hundred meters away, and its position across the river from the Sapphire balconies installed at Watford Riverwell, set a precedent for high-quality architectural and design standards. Working in close collaboration with Grant Francis, Sapphire Balconies embarked on a mission to design a variety of balcony types that would not only enhance the building’s visual appeal but also ensure consistency and harmony across the structure.

Streamlined by Innovation, Delivered by Sapphire

The collaboration began with Sapphire presenting their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) presentation, laying the groundwork for a detailed exploration of the project’s specific needs. This initial engagement was crucial for understanding the architectural vision and functional requirements of Mayfields Care Home.

A key focus of the collaboration was the design and integration of privacy divider screens between balconies. Recognising the importance of balancing cost-effectiveness with aesthetic appeal, Sapphire worked diligently to refine the design of these dividers. The objective was to achieve a seamless integration with the building’s overall style, ensuring that the screens not only provided the necessary privacy for residents but also contributed to the architectural language of the development.

Through innovative design and engineering, Sapphire helped streamline the privacy screens, making them more cost-effective without compromising on quality or visual impact. This approach exemplified Sapphire’s ability to address project-specific challenges with tailored solutions, enhancing the overall cohesion of the balcony designs.

Mayfields Care Home serves as a prime example of how thoughtful design and collaboration can result in a living environment that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally superior. Sapphire Balconies’ expertise in balcony design and their ability to work closely with architects like Grant Francis played a pivotal role in the successful realization of the project’s vision. By simplifying the design of privacy divider screens and ensuring a visual style consistent across the building, Sapphire contributed significantly to the creation of a care home that is visually integrated with its surroundings and meets the high standards set by the adjacent developments. This project underscores the value of partnership and innovation in creating spaces that not only look good but also feel like home.
